SUMMER SCHOOL
CREATIVE INDUSTRIES AND CONTEMPORARY HUMANITIES AS A RESOURCE FOR REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Moscow – Yasnaya Polyana
June 30 – July 7, 2009

....When in contemporary Russia they discuss innovative economy in most cases they mean modernization in traditional sectors of industry and business. If a mention of cultural sector or humanitarian sciences occurs, they are described as conservative sectors for heritage preservation and academic research, which are not connected with practice and cannot be modernized. At the same time, existing practice demonstrates that culture and humanitarian knowledge have a growing role in social and economic development.

The interests of contemporary philosophers, historians, sociologists, philologists, economists, politologists, cover the most burning issues of contemporary world from global theories of historical evolution to local history of remote places, hardly noticed on historical and geographical maps; from studies on the changes brought to every day life by high technologies to development of new social and cultural practices; from studies on disappearing languages and cultures to the problems of cultural integration and global civilization.

..The project is intended to present and discuss the creative industries phenomenon and its contribution to city regeneration and regional development processes. Central topic of the Summer School 2009 is development of creative industries as a new fusion of culture, economy and social policy. According to the results of questionnaire survey and experts' recommendations after the School 2008, the main focus of the following School would be on professional orientation and development of future specialists in humanitarian field...
