The Panel discussion “Cultural city space and city development” will take place in Sochi, November, 10, 2010, within the project “The Creative South. Cultural and symbolic resources of the South”.

The idea of changing the city by means of culture and creativity is an increasingly prominent position in the strategies of socio-economic development throughout the world nowadays. Culture forms a positive image of an area, increases the level of human capital, and plays a key role in the formation of an attractive and comfortable urban environment.

Culture forms a positive image of an area, increases the level of human capital, and plays a key role in the formation of an attractive and comfortable urban environment.

Modern city environment - it is first of all opportunities for communication, leisure and creativity and house building and infrastructure are supposed to follow them. Unfortunately, priorities are not always arranged in such a way in our country. The construction of new facilities is used to shading such important parts of city life as a comfortable atmosphere, opportunities not only for relaxation but also for fruitful communication for both citizens and tourists.

Sochi as a future capital of Olympic Games gains a lot of attention. How will the cultural space of the city linked with the urban environment be developed? What future projects can be offered by organizations, culture and the creative community of Sochi for city development? What is potential creativity of Sochi? What new initiatives aiming at cultural and urban development can be suggested?

The project "The Creative South” initiates public discussions on the development of the creative environment in the city and wider - the development of the urban environment in general.

Open discussion on the future of local cultural initiatives can help identify possible development drive of cities, regions and the Southern Russia in whole.

Within the project several panel discussions in Volgograd, Rostov-on-Don and Krasnodar, as well as project and analytical workshops in Stavropol and Taganrog have been held.

The discussions are attended by representatives of urban communities, state, municipal and private cultural organizations, government, business, media, as well as leading Russian and foreign experts.
