Nowadays Contemporary university going to be the key-point of development because, universities in particular are the places of production and transmission of knowledge, creation of new, cutting-edge units for business, communities, contemporary cities. Rife seminar program allowed participants not to merely communicate with colleagues and to share their experience but also to visit contemporary library and cultural centers, to listen to lectures, to take part in group work and to start working on the actualization of their libraries stocks. The seminar’s program was build according to the principle ‘from common to particular’: from library in the context of city cultural politics to concrete stocks and librarians. The first day was dedicated to the space of contemporary library and the topic of the day was: ’How work formats and space structure correlate to each other? What can a reader make in contemporary library?’ The host of the day was arts critic and curator Georgy Nikich. Practical approach of the seminar was expressed in the choice of seminar’s location-Moscow high school of social and economic sciences library and the library ‘Prospect’. All the participants were divided into 3 groups, which during the seminar under the moderator’s rule were trying to find answers to disturbing questions; were sharing the ideas and vision of how should contemporary university library look like and work.

Speaking about library in common, the participants picked out a number of problems which exist in their libraries. There were mentioned lack of visitors and absence of professional staff, absence of financing, loss of interest in books, small quantity of arrivals of new books in library, insufficient technical support. All these problems voiced by the participants and commented by the seminar’s experts were laid down into the basis of work in groups. The results of the first day were presented on the round-table discussion ‘What does it mean-to change library space?’ The main conclusion which was made by the participants as the result of round-table discussion is that library, should become an intellectual center, the field of student’s creative thinking, scientific and cultural center of university as a whole.

The second day was dedicated to books and the topic of the day was: ‘System presentation of knowledge or technologies of work with stocks. What can you read, see or listen to in contemporary library?’ This day was full of interesting meetings with leading experts in the area of library work: Boris Kuprianov (deputy director of Moscow city library center; publisher and publicist, one of the co-founders of book shop ‘Falanster’) substantiated the concernment of library as an open space, as a place of action by giving the examples of new library projects of the Department of Culture of Moscow; Alexandr Artamonov (an expert of creative group ‘Museum solutions’) covered the topic of electronic provision of library by giving a master-class and practical recommendations; Georgy Nikitich (the main curator and deputy director of association ‘Exhibition halls of Moscow’) by giving the practical cases told the participants about exhibition interpretation of library stocks; Irina Polyanskaya (the director of Polytechnical library) covered the problem of library stock as a part of scientific communication. After the lecture there was an opportunity to discuss actual problems of library stocks activity in working groups and to suggest ideas about work with the audience and broadness of the spectrum of library services.

For the adoption of the material, Olga Sinitsina (independent expert on library and museum work and international cultural cooperation) told about actualization of university library stocks on the international cases and her own experience of heading of Margarita Rudomino All-Russia State Library of Foreign Literature (LFL). Her lecture was ‘the bridge’ to the homework of seminar’s participants. As a result of the seminar all the participants should show the experts the program of actualization of their university library stocks on the basis of received materials and drawn conclusions.

Productive communication, meetings with unique experts (professionals of library work), analysis of the problems and discussion on the ways of its solutions could create new turn in the development of university’s libraries.
